A new study shows how vaping can greatly reduce smokers’ blood pressure
Can vaping influence high blood pressure associated with regular smoking?
A recent study focused on patients with high blood pressure who either: (a) smoke only cigarettes (b) only vape; or (c) reduce the consumption of tobacco cigarettes by also vaping.
The results were clear: smokers who significantly reduced or even stopped smoking and switched to e-cigarettes had significant improvements in their systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Furthermore, if they switched to vaping e-cigarettes completely instead of inhaling toxic tobacco smoke, they could greatly reduce the risk of heart disease as well.
The study was published in the International Journey of Environmental Research and Public Health. Riccardo Polosa, who works at the University of Catania in Italy. He has conducted a lot of research related to the effects of e-cigarettes. Another one of his studies notes that quitting smoking with e-cigarettes repairs damage from asthma patients.
Why is blood pressure important at all?
The most common causes of premature death ( before 65) of smokers are heart disease and strokes. People who smoke double their risk of dying of cardiovascular disease within the next 10 years. Compared to non-smokers, smokers who started at a young age increase their of a heart attack risk fivefold.
The dangerous cigarette smoke clogs the arteries and causes chronic inflammation, both of which can lead to increased blood pressure. High blood pressure only increases the risk of a smoker suffering from cardiovascular disease.
Unfortunately, smokers who already have high blood pressure cannot rely on much information regarding the long-term effects of smoking abstinence on blood pressure. Another nasty by-product of quitting smoking is often a weight gain. An increased weight is an independent cause of high blood pressure and heart disease, which makes the analysis even more difficult.
How can the use of e-cigarettes influence your health?
E-cigarettes help you quit smoking, Dr. Polosa and his research team have also found that weight gain after quitting is significantly lower in former smokers who now vape than in smokers who do not consume e-cigarettes.
"E-cigarettes can help smokers with high blood pressure quit smoking with minimal weight gain. This barely significant weight gain and reduced blood pressure after completely switching to e-cigarettes ensures the long-term positive effects of smoking cessation." Polosa.
Despite some limitations of this study, such as the size of the test group, no control over other lifestyle factors, and self-assessment of smoking habits, the study shows that vaping plays an important role in helping smokers reduce their blood pressure and this way, minimize their risk of serious heart disease.
In conclusion, completely switching to e-cigarettes like Hexa can help smokers with arterial hypertension reduce or stop smoking, with hardly any significant weight gain as confirmed by the research team.
